The BlackStar Ops Group

The inspiration for the BlackStar Ops Group (BSOG) series of family-friendly spy thrillers began in 1986 while I stationed at Mather Air Force Base, in Rancho Cordova, California.

I taught Hakkoryu Juijutsu in the evening for the Rancho Cordova Parks District. A student, who was a Security Policeman on base told his commander, who asked me to teach Police Apprehension and Control Techniques (PACT) to his squadron.

I agreed and was taking a break with a class in the outdoor training area on base. I looked over at the Alert Facility, which housed B-52 bombers, and KC-135 In-Air-Refueling Tankers, and commented how secure the Alert Pad looked.

The security policemen laughed and revealed a dozen ways it could be taken over by trained men. I couldn’t use the information since it was classified, and had to wait until Mather closed.

I started the BSOG series a dozen years ago with a rookie novel, BlackJack Bomber, which is no longer in print.

A year later I met Ken Farmer, and Buck Stienke, co-owners of Timber Creek Press at a writer’s conference. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Westerns

An Old West anthology by a group of award-winning and best-selling western authors.

Each author wrote a short story using the same protagonist, Sheriff Mason Flynn, from Ken Farmer’s The Nations series of historical novels.

It’s like a TV series with guest stars in each story from different writers.

My contribution was Mary Elizabeth Peabody, a young Boston socialite from a wealthy family, who travels to Fort Sill, Indian Territory in 1897 to settle the affairs of her murdered brother.

Arriving in Wichita by train, she hires a guide to escort her and her chaperone maid, but he turns out to be a nasty character. She is eventually rescued by Sheriff Mason Flynn, who is delivering a prisoner to Fort Sill.
